Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opposing team’s hoop or basket. The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop at each end, and the objective is to score more points than the opposing team within a set time limit. Players advance the ball by dribbling—bouncing the ball while running—or by passing it to teammates. Points are awarded for field goals made from within the three-point line (two points) or beyond it (three points), while free throws (one point) are awarded after certain fouls are committed. The sport emphasizes both offensive and defensive strategies, requiring players to work collaboratively to create scoring opportunities while also trying to prevent the opposing team from scoring. Basketball is known for its fast pace, athleticism, and the skills of shooting, dribbling, and teamwork. The game is governed by specific rules that outline fouls, violations, and game conduct, and it is played recreationally throughout the world, as well as at professional levels, such as in the NBA (National Basketball Association).
